Innate tumorigenesis

چکیده
Spinning septins S eptin fi laments in yeast do a right-angled turn in the middle of cell division, according to Alina Vrabioiu and Tim Mitchison (Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA). The fi laments initially align parallel to the spindle axis but then rotate 90° to form two circumferential rings that fl ank the cytokinetic furrow. Septin fi laments help cells divide, but just how they do so has remained mysterious. The direction of septin-dependent striations varied

Remote control of intestinal tumorigenesis by innate immunity.
Chronic intestinal inflammation has been linked to the development of colorectal cancer. Recent studies suggest that during chronic inflammation, the innate immune system may facilitate colon tumorigenesis in genetically predisposed individuals in response to certain indigenous microorganisms and/or cell remnants. In these individuals, therapeutic approaches that reroute the innate immune syste...
متن کاملInflammation-Induced Tumorigenesis The Innate Immune Receptor Nod1 Protects the Intestine
There is growing evidence that the host innate immune system has a critical role in regulating carcinogenesis, but the specific receptors involved and the importance of their interaction with commensal bacteria need to be elucidated. Two major classes of innate immune receptors, the Toll-like receptors and Nod-like receptors, many of which are upstream of nuclear factor-KB, are involved in the ...

متن کاملInnate immune cells in inflammation and cancer.
The innate immune system has evolved in multicellular organisms to detect and respond to situations that compromise tissue homeostasis. It comprises a set of tissue-resident and circulating leukocytes primarily designed to sense pathogens and tissue damage through hardwired receptors and eliminate noxious sources by mediating inflammatory processes. While indispensable to immunity, the inflamma...
متن کاملDrosophila at the intersection of infection, inflammation, and cancer
Recent studies show that both cellular and humoral aspects of innate immunity play important roles during tumor progression. These interactions have traditionally been explored in vertebrate model systems. In recent years, Drosophila has emerged as a genetically tractable model system for studying key aspects of tumorigenesis including proliferation, invasion, and metastasis. The absence of ada...
متن کاملInterplay between the gut microbiota and epithelial innate signaling in colitis-associated colon carcinogenesis
Intestinal microbiota is involved in the maintenance of gut homeostasis as well as the regulation of colitisassociated colorectal tumorigenesis. The aberrant host immune signaling and the presence of opportunistic commensals with potential pathogenic characteristics (pathobionts) have been suggested to be incorporated into the genetic paradigm of colon carcinogenesis. The reciprocal relationshi...
